Closed packages: selling the whole period

Create a closed price for a period that must be booked in full, such as New Year or Carnival.

What a package is

A package is a closed price for a whole period. It is not a nightly rate: it is the price of the set.

"New Year, 29 December to 2 January, R$ 4,500" is a package. The guest books that complete period, for that amount.

A package and a special price are not the same thing

Both live on the same tab, and they are easy to confuse:

  • A special price replaces the *rate* for those dates. The guest can book only part of the period, and pays per night.
  • A package is a *closed* price for the period. It has the highest priority of all pricing rules.
  • How to create one

    1. Go to Settings → Properties and click the property's calendar icon.

    2. Open the Specials and packages tab.

    3. Click New rule.

    4. Fill in the period name, the start date and the end date.

    5. Tick Closed package with top priority.

    6. Enter the closed package price.

    7. Optionally, set a minimum number of nights and a package note.

    8. Click Save rule.

If you do not tick the package box, the rule becomes a special price: instead of a closed value, you enter the nightly price for the period.

    What the guest sees

On your booking link, the package period appears as a set. The guest has to select the whole range — or the whole range plus extra nights. What does not go through is half a package; the refusal and the message the guest reads are detailed further down.

If you wrote a package note, it appears next to the offer. That is the place to say what is included: dinner, decoration, a special breakfast.

Booking the package plus a few more nights

This is the most common question, and the answer is simple: yes, they can. The guest does not have to book exactly the package dates — they have to book at least them.

There are three situations, and the distinction matters:

    1. The stay is exactly the package. The closed price is charged, and nothing else.

    2. The stay contains the whole package and also has nights outside it. The closed package price is charged plus the normal price of each extra night. Those outside nights follow the usual pricing order — price set for the date, special price, season, weekday rate, base rate. The package does not contaminate them, and they do not dilute the package.

    3. The stay takes only part of the package. That one is not possible. See the section below.

    Worked example

A trade-fair package, 24/04 to 02/05, with a closed price of R$ 30,000. It occupies the eight nights from 24/04 to 01/05 — 02/05 is the departure day, and a departure day is not a night.

The normal nightly rate outside the package is R$ 1,000.

  • The guest books 24/04 to 02/05 → R$ 30,000. That is exactly the package.
  • The guest books 23/04 to 03/05R$ 32,000: the R$ 30,000 package, plus the night of 23/04 and the night of 02/05, at R$ 1,000 each.
  • Note that 02/05 becomes an ordinary night when the stay continues. It was the package's checkout; it becomes a normal night, charged at that date's rate.

    Several packages in one stay

If the stay covers more than one whole package, the values add up — and the nights between them are still charged at the normal rate.

    Example: package A from 24/04 to 26/04 at R$ 2,000, package B from 28/04 to 30/04 at R$ 3,000, normal nightly rate R$ 1,000. A stay from 23/04 to 01/05 costs R$ 9,000: R$ 2,000 + R$ 3,000 for the packages, plus four loose nights (23, 26, 27 and 30) at R$ 1,000.

Adjacent packages — one ending on the day the other starts — also add up normally, because they share no night.

What is not allowed is two packages competing for the same night. That is a setup error, not a booking one: the dates stay unavailable until you adjust one of them, and the panel tells you which nights are in conflict.

Booking only part of a package is not possible

If the guest's selection starts or ends in the middle of a package without covering it in full, the booking is refused. They see a message that already contains the way out:

The selected dates include only part of the package "Trade fair". To book that period, select from 24/04/2027 to 02/05/2027.

This is deliberate. A package is the price of a set; charging half of it at the ordinary rate would sell the period for less than you decided, on exactly the dates in highest demand.

Where the refusal happens can vary. On properties already enabled for the strict check, a partial selection is blocked at the quote, and the guest sees the message above before going any further. On the others, they can proceed seeing ordinary nightly prices, and the refusal happens when confirming the booking. In neither case is a partial booking created. If you want the earlier refusal on your properties, contact support.

Length-of-stay discounts do not apply to the package

If the property has progressive length-of-stay discounts, they apply only to the nights outside the package. The closed price is removed from the calculation base.

In the two-package example above, a 10% discount would apply to the R$ 4,000 of loose nights — R$ 400 — never to the R$ 5,000 of closed prices. That is what stops a discount from hollowing out a price you set precisely so it would not be negotiated.

    Minimum nights

A rule's minimum nights applies to the check-in it governs. In other words: whoever checks in inside the period must respect that rule's minimum, not the minimum of another rule that merely touches the period.

    In properties that sell rooms

Here there is a requirement you cannot skip: the package must be linked to a room.

When creating it, select the package room. The package applies to that room, and other rooms can have their own packages on the same dates.

If the property has no active room yet, the screen asks you to create one first.

Each room is a separate conversation

Two practical consequences, and both avoid surprises:

  • One room's package never shows up in another room's price. If the Chalet has an eight-night package and the Studio does not, whoever quotes the Studio on those dates pays the Studio's normal rate — without the Chalet's closed price and without its minimum nights.
  • The extra nights are charged at that room's rate. A stay containing the Chalet's package plus two more nights charges the closed package price plus two Chalet nights.
  • The same period can have a package on the Chalet and on the Studio at the same time, at different prices. That is not a conflict: they are different stays.

What is a conflict is two packages in the same room competing for the same night — there the rule from the previous section applies.

The "Package incompatible with per-room rental" warning

If you see this warning, it is telling you something concrete and urgent: there are packages on that property with no room linked, and a general package cannot be applied to a room.

While that lasts, those dates cannot be booked. The screen offers two ways out, and both fix it:

  • pick the room for each listed package, using Link to room; or
  • deactivate the packages that no longer apply.
  • Do not leave this warning sitting there: it means a blocked calendar.

Where a package sits in the pricing order

A package is the first level, the strongest of all. It beats the price you typed for the date, the special price, the season, the weekday rule and the base rate. See how the nightly price is decided.

    Worked example

A country house creates the New Year package, 29/12 to 02/01, with a closed price of R$ 4,500 and the note "includes dinner for up to 10 people".

A guest tries to book 30/12 to 01/01. The link warns that the period is a package and must be booked in full. They adjust to 29/12–02/01 and see the R$ 4,500 price, with the dinner note beside it.

If the property also had a December season at R$ 900 per night, it would be ignored on those dates: the package has top priority.

    Common mistakes

  • Creating the rule and forgetting to tick Closed package with top priority — it becomes a nightly special price.
  • On per-room properties, creating the package without picking a room and not noticing the dates became unbookable.
  • Expecting the guest to be able to book half a package.
